I do not need to refresh our memory on the case of Professor of Management Accounting of OAU, Ile Ife. The latest is that he has been released after serving mandatory sentence which he has pleaded guilty of the offence. Now that he is back, what becomes of him is the question we should address.
In this part of the world, the idea of stigmatization of ex-convict is worrisome. Prison is said to be a correction centre. People can only come out stronger, better and more refined. It is like the story of former armed robbers or criminals who gave his or her life to christ. They become forthright and live modestly and well behaved than many of us who are yet to be caught on those nefarious activities we engage in. Even after the conviction of Prof. Akindele, who was made a scapegoat, we have since witnessed other perpetrators of same offence and also from other Universities.
Employers' like OAU may be reluctant to hire or re absorb such an individual like Prof. Akindele which may be prompted by law or by fear of litigation. This is where we must make case if truly we want to move forward in our society. Prof. Akindele had acquired great knowledge in his chosen career which must not be allow to waste just like that.
