4 People Dead, 3 Injured In Abeokuta Tanker Explosion

No fewer than four people were reportedly dead, three people injured in the early morning Tanker (PMS) explosion which occurred in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Tuesday.

The petroleum Laden thanker with burnt registration number, suspected to be coming from Mosimi depot in Sagamu, was said to have lost control, due to break failure while descending the Kuto-bridge around 8am of today.

According to Ige Folarin, Director of State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, The PMS Laden lost its control from the bridge which lead to the tanker colliding with the Lexus SUV and other vehicles leaving Three people burnt to dead beyond recognition, Four people critically injured, Six Vehicles burnt including PMS Tanker Laden, while the remains of the dead victims was deposited at State Morgue, Sokenu, Abeokuta.

Registration number of two among the 7 burnt vehicles according to our correspondent was Lexus 350 MUS 636 GN,Toyota Highlander TRE 945 AA.

Meanwhile, Eye witness account revealed that 12 people were injured and rescued to State Hospital, Sokenu Road in Ijaiye, Abeokuta in Ogun state.

Government officials present during the rescue includes Commissioner of Health - Tomi Coker, Commissioner of Special Duties Francis Ogunbanwo, Commissioner of Works- Ade Akinsanya, Afolabi Afuape, Commissioner of Chieftaincy Affairs among others.

Also Men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC, Nigeria Police Force, Fire service State and Federal, Traffic Compliance And Enforcement Agency TRACE, Nigeria Road Safety Corps FRSC, Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service were on standby to capture the accident.

Speaking with AmeboTvNG news Owolabi Yekeen Owodunni one of the victims whose vehicles was burnt said he rushed down from the vehicle after the Petroleum Laden collided with Lexus 350 which later resulted to fire explosion.

"While I was driving i noticed the driver waving hands which gave me impression that the Petroleum Laden must has lost its break, as a former fire service cadre I opened my door and alert my colleague in the car to run for his life, I saw people burning life in front of me." Said Owodunni
