Abeokuta - The Ogun State Government said on Tuesday that the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta will soon begin the process of awarding Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree to its engineering graduates, instead of the Higher National Diploma (HND).

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, who disclosed this at his office in Oke – Mosan, Abeokuta, while addressing reporters, said the institution had been mandated by law to award B. Tech degree in its engineering programmes.Odemuyiwa said one of the thrusts of the current administration’s policy in education is to “educate for employability through technical education”, hence the need to spur MAPOLY and the Governing Council to implement the B.Tech degree aspect of the mandate.

He said the Governor Abiodun administration was working towards reviewing the educational curriculum in the state to align it with the demands of today and tomorrow.

He lamented that paucity of teachers and instructors, as well as misconceptions about technical education, among other challenges, were part of the reasons there was low enrollment into technical and technological education schools in the country.

He said, “His Excellency has graciously given his nod to urgently and aggressively sought for qualified teachers as per need of each trade in each of the technical colleges in the state.”
