Residents, sons and daughters of the ancient Anago community of Ipokia town in Ipokia local government area of Ogun state on Tuesday, trooped to the streets in peaceful protest against alleged plans by some politicians in the state to install a non - native as the next monarch of the town.

The protesters, who were from the Iwaye Dodo-Bi-Oke ruling house in Ipokia, carried placards bearing different inscriptions to drive home their protest.

Speaking with journalists during the protest, the Secretary to the ruling house, Mrs. Aguda Ruth Okeleye appealed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to stop the planned installation of one Yisa Olaniyan as the next Onipokia, whom they alleged as not related to their family.

Okeleye disclosed that crisis generated over the matter is still pending before an Ogun state High Court sitting in Ilaro.
She also expressed surprise as to why the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which had in a letter dated May 10th, 2019, nullified the selection process of Olaniyan as the next Onipokia, could retrace the nullification order and turned back to uphold the process which it had earleir declared "null, void and of no consequence".

She added that the selection process has since been challenged in a court of competent jurisdiction, stressing that Justice Ogunfowora of the High Court sitting in Ilaro had on August 19, 2019, declared the stool of Onipokia of Ipokia vacant due to gross noncompliance with the Chieftaincy Law of Ogun state 2006 and directed the parties to maintain the status quo pending the final decision on the matter.

Okeleye specifically accused the state Director of Civil Litigation, Barr. Akinsinde of writing the purported legal advice which the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs relied on to revert its nullification order and proceed with the selection of the outsider, Yisa Olaniyan.

She argued that the ruling remains subsisting and uncontroverted in full force. It has neither been reversed nor upturned by any appellate Court and nobody has applied to set aside or appeal the ruling in a superior court of record till date.

Oyeleye expressed surprise that despite the pending litigation and different petitions to the state governor and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs could still direct the Ipokia local government to proceed with the installation and coronation process of Yisa Olaniyan as Onipokia of Ipokia kingdom.

The family however, called on Governor Abiodun  to rise to the occasion by calling the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to order by respecting the court's order and cease actions on the planned coronation of a non-native as the next monarch of the town pending the final determination of the matter in court.
