You have been getting awards and recognitions for your phenomenal success in the movie business, exactly what does this achievements mean to you?

Ah! It means a lot to me, I must tell you, it means a whole lot to me. I am always excited I am really grateful for the love shown me by the people and my fans. I thank them for recognising my contributions to the industry, most especially, my fans, I thank them so much. They have made my success possible and I’m really grateful to them.

Did you honestly see the fame and success you have achieved coming?

Trust me, I didn’t see it coming at all. It’s a very competitive industry and if you look at the other names in the industry you will understand the sort of competition you have to go through before you can excel. I did not see this coming at all, which is why I’m grateful and thankful to God.

Your father is the veteran and industry Icon, Alhaji Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, what sort of pressure did this give you at the time you were coming into the industry?

Ah, well, I think it gave me a bit of pressure at the initial stage. Naturally, people were always expecting a lot from me and I was under some bit of pressure to impress at every given chance. I didn’t want anyone to start thinking I was riding under my father’s name, you understand. But it was just at the beginning that I experienced little pressure, after a while the pressure disappeared and everything started going smoothly.

What is that unique thing about you that has helped you stand out as an actor and achieve so much within such a short a time?

I think it’s my ability to gladly take on different diverse roles and interpret them brilliantly. I don’t like being stereotyped, I like to play different characters. When people see you play only one type of role every time, after a while, they could become tired of watching you play same role over and over again. Except if you are extremely good at that role. This is why you will see me play different characters like Jelili, or play a rich, educated man or poor man. I think this has endeared me to the fans and people have come to see and appreciate the kind of acting skills that I have.

I have noticed that every time you pick up an award you always dedicate it to your father, why do you always do this and…?

(cuts in) He taught me everything. He made this possible. If he didn’t prepare the foundation for what I’m doing now, I probably won’t be where I am today. So, I think it’s only natural that I give him that honour by dedicating my awards to him every time I get to pick one.

You come across like a real Daddy’s Boy, how close are you to your Dad?

We are very close. My father is my friend and confidant. He is my mentor, my everything. Yeah, we are very close.

You are a fine gentleman, and the fact that you’re a successful actor certainly would attract a lot of female admirers to you, despite the fact that they know you’re married, how do you deal with this?

Well, the truth of the matter is that, as actors, women are our biggest fans. They are the ones who follow us, watch our movies and go out of their way to appreciate what we do. And we appreciate them too. Without them, we won’t be here. They are the ones who buy our movies and support us. We can’t do without them, they will always be there for us. So, I can’t have any problem dealing with that. I’m friends with all of them.

What about the female admirers, the ones who want a little more than just friendship, how do you handle them?

It’s all the same, really. They are all my fans. For those who get a bit carried away, I know when to draw the line and keep things strictly official. That’s no problem at all. My fans are very important to me and I try as much as I can to treat them with the respect they deserve.

What are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m working on a project, it’s an English movie series and it’s directed by Kunle Afolayan. It will be ready soon and everyone will love it. There are lots of big names involved but I don’t want to let too much out of the bag right now.

Some word for your fans

I thank them for the support. I thank them for the encouragement. I thank them for the love. They should continue to support us like they’ve been doing all these years and I promise that we won’t let them down.
