Motorcyclist Killed As LASTMA Officers, Driver Battles For Guiding Wheel

A bicycle hailing administration rider, John Abanna, has met a heartbreaking end in the hands of an authority of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and a business transport driver. 

Abanna was wrecked by the transport at Apogbon, Lagos Island, while the LASTMA official was purportedly hauling the guiding wheel with the Danfo driver. 

City Round discovered that two authorities had waved to the driver along the street last Saturday for damaging a transit regulation. 

While trying to sidestep capture, the driver supposedly made to zoom off however one of the authorities jumped on his controlling wheel. 

Our journalist assembled that as they were battling the guiding wheel with one another, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it smashed into Abanna's cruiser. The rider kicked the bucket on the spot. 

Rankled by the episode, a few young people purportedly took on the authorities who fled the scene and set out toward their office along Funsho Williams Avenue, Iponri, – a couple of kilometers away. 

An observer, who recognized himself just as Tolu, told City Round that the irate adolescents raged the organization's office in Iponri and vandalized a few vehicles. 

He stated, "Some LASTMA authorities needed to capture a Danfo driver at Apogbon for a traffic offense yet he opposed capture. One of them began battling the directing wheel with the driver who was not prepared to give up. 

"The driver needed to zoom off not realizing a rider was directly close to the transport. As the rider attempted to pass, the vehicle veered and thumped him off the cruiser. He hit his head on the floor and passed on the spot. 

"The LASTMA authorities fled yet a few 'young men' pursued them to their office in Iponri and vandalized a few vehicles. A portion of the authorities immediately changed their uniform to mufti." 

Tolu said police from the Iponri division later came to scatter the group and reestablished commonality. 

The LASTMA representative, Mr Olumide Filade, howver, denied that the authorities were liable for the accident. 

He stated, "The episode has nothing to do with us. From Apogbon, the motorcyclist was riding against traffic when he was wrecked by the transport. No LASTMA official was battling with the Danfo driver. 

"Tragically, a few scalawags who consistently support okada riders assaulted our office." 

Asked whether there was an endeavor to capture the driver, Filade stated, "Regardless of whether they needed to capture the driver, the transport would not have thumped him (Abanna) down on the off chance that he was not riding against traffic." 

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, said the body had been stored at the Mainland Hospital funeral home, Yaba, and examination had started. 

He stated, "Police got data that some business motorcyclists famously known as okada riders had attacked LASTMA office along Funsho Williams Avenue. 

"On receipt of the report, a police group assembled to the scene. It was seen that more than 100 motorcyclists were at that point vandalizing vehicles in LASTMA hues. 

"Likewise, a body later recognized as John Abanna was lying dormant directly before LASTMA office. The expired was said to have been wrecked by a Vanagon transport around Apongbon Bridge after the driver and a LASTMA official were said to have battled over the guiding wheel which made the driver incidentally run into the perished. 

"Four vehicles were vandalized while the cadaver of the expired has been kept at Yaba morgue. Examination is in progress."
