Ericka Karner and her contractors made a shocking discovery while renovating her childhood home.
Buried underneath her family’s garage was a long, thin wooden coffin topped with a glass lid.
A little girl’s body was still well-preserved inside.
Now there was a mystery to solve.
Since no one knew the identity of the girl inside the coffin, Ericka started calling her “Miranda.”
Despite the fact the coffin was believed to be about 120 years old, it was so tightly sealed that the decomposition process was incredibly slow. The purple flowers in her hair and white lace christening dress were still intact.
With the help of Garden of Innocence, an organization that provides burials to unidentified children, the girl’s identity was uncovered.
One year after discovering the coffin under her garage, Ericka was able to give this child the proper sendoff.
