The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has told the representative of Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of, Hon. Kayode Oladele, to get ready to vacate his seat for the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, The Eagle Online is reporting.
Amosun’s pronouncement on the House of Representatives seat was one of the many he made last week, including his own to head to the Senate after his tenure as governor next year.
The Governor, impeccable sources told The Eagle Online, called virtually all those he needed to speak with on the distribution of positions on the platform of the All Progressives Congress via the telephone.
Sources told The Eagle Online that Amosun called Oladele, one of the 10 very prominent and hardworking legislators in the National Assembly, on the telephone on Saturday that his seat will go to Adekunbi from next year.
His only reason for this, The Eagle Online was told, was that he had promised Adekunbi the governorship seat after his exit in 2019.
However, with the decision last week, under the supervision of Amosun at a meeting at the Government House in Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta, the state capital, to cede the governorship seat to Ogun West Senatorial District, with Abdulkabir Akinlade as candidate, nullified the promise to give Adekunbi the ticket.
Even the adoption of Akinlade has become controversial, with a chieftain of the APC in Ogun State, who moved the motion for it at the meeting, Tunde Oladunjoye, distancing himself from it.
Oladunjoye said he was threatened to move the motion by the Ogun State Chairman of the APC, Chief Derin Adebiyi.
In reaching out to others with political ambition, Amosun was said to have called them on the phone.
One of those who has stepped down so far is the representative of Ogun Central Senatorial District, Gbenga Obadara.
Obadara is stepping down so Amosun could replace him in the Senate.
However, there are said to be protests over Amosun’s moves, especially as it concerns Oladele.
Oladele, a human rights activist and attorney, is the Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes.
He has initiated and contributed to more bills that have been passed into law than most of his colleagues.
He attended Baptist High School, Karo, where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate in 1981.
He attended Oyo State College of Art and Science before he proceeded to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a degree in law in 1987.
He graduated from the Nigerian Law School in 1988 and was called to the bar before he received a Master of Law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 2000.
He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the APC on April 11, 2015, with the hope that his reelection will see Ogun State producing one of the ranking members of the House and the National Assembly in general.
