The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ota, Ogun State, said that two pedestrians were killed by a tipper while crossing a road on Saturday in Sango-Ota.

The Unit Commander of FRSC, Olonisaye Olufemi, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota that the accident occurred at about 3.45 p.m.

Mr. Olufemi said the tipper, with reg. no KRD 571 XM, was travelling from Abeokuta to Lagos when it had brake failure and ran into three pedestrians.

“The three victims were rescued and rushed to State Hospital in Ota for an extensive trea
tment while two of the victims died later after few hours and were taken to the mortuary,’’ he said.

The Unit Commander, however, advised owners of tippers and other articulated vehicles to ensure their proper maintenance before putting them on the road. He also warned that the drivers of such vehicles should adhere strictly to speed limit of 50km per hour.

“It must be stated that the owners of these tippers must ensure their proper maintenance before putting them on the road in order not to endanger other people’s lives.

“Again, their drivers must also maintain 50km per hour speed limit for their kind of vehicles,” he said.
Mr. Olonisaye also appealed to pedestrians to observe necessary precautions before crossing the road.
“People should not just dash across the road without observing the necessary precautions. It is dangerous to do so,’’ he warned.
