Mr Kunle Somorin, Chief Press Secretary To Ogun State Government

The National Association of Ogun State Students has on Wednesday, taken a swipe on the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Mr Kunle Somorin enjoining him to always verify reports before disseminating same to the public to avoid misinformation.

The students’ body in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta which was signed by the National President, Gbemileke Ogunrombi accused the CPS of spreading unconfirmed report claiming three students died at an accident involving the Nigeria Customs Service where only one life of one 20-year old student,Opeyemi Odusina was lost.

It would be recalled that the CPS on behalf of the Governor, Dapo Abiodun had issued a statement claiming that three students of Ojumo Community High School, Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Government Area were killed by a smuggled vehicle which was reportedly driven by officer of NCS.

Ogunrombi however maintained that it is unprofessional for the CPS to spread the fake news as the mouth piece of the Governor without doing investigation on how true the information was.

He further appealed to the Governor spokesperson to be professional and seek the true details of information before disseminating to the public so as to avoid misinforming the people of the state.

He said, “We were shocked to discover that the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,Mr Kunle Somorin was actively involved in peddling an unconfirmed story on the incident claiming three students died when only one died.

“We would not have attracted much audience to the information from Mr Kunle Somorin, if he had issued such statement in his own capacity and not as the mouth piece of our Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun. Obviously, any information credited to the government shall be assumed real across everywhere.

“We however want to appeal to the Chief Press Secretary to be professional in his dealings and not fall cheap of the antics of some elements whose vehicle has been impounded by the Customs to heat up the polity for their own selfish interest.

“The office of the CPS is powerful and must be professionally managed enough to seek the true picture of what happened both from the members of the public and NCS to avoid misinforming the people .”
