Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and behavior. When you’re addicted to drugs, you can’t resist the urge to use them, no matter how much harm the drugs may cause. Drug addiction isn’t about just heroin, cocaine, or other illegal drugs. You can get addicted to alcohol, nicotine, opioid painkillers, and other legal substances.

At first, you may choose to take a drug because you like the way it makes you feel. You may think you can control how much and how often you use it. But over time, drugs change how your brain works. These physical changes can last a long time. They make you lose self-control and can lead you to damaging behaviors.

This is the story of Lizzy who has been begging on the streets of Lagos especially in the Ikeja area for seven years. Dressed in a way to attract sympathy, she begs for money in the busy traffic during the day. At night she resorts to commercial sex work, all in a bid to fund her drug addiction. Tony Rapu took Lizzy off the streets last week to begin her long journey of rehabilitation and hopefully, successful integration back to a normal and productive life.

A young girl identified as Lizzy has been rescued from drug addiction by Senior Pastor of The House of Freedom, Tony Rapu. The story of Lizzy, a young girl who said she attended Vivian Fowler Memorial Secondary School at Oregun, Lagos, and Caleb Nursery and Primary School, broke late Tuesday.

We picked up Lizzy over the weekend. Here, she tells a bit of her story while awaiting our arrival at the joint she frequented in Ikeja. Lizzy tells about her upbringing, her addiction to crack cocaine and the depraved night life she lived to make money to pay the drug dealers. She is currently undergoing her first stage of detox and rehabilitation in the long journey out of addiction. We hope and pray she returns to a normal and productive life afterwards. • For more information about our rehab program, to sponsor or nominate a beneficiary, kindly send a DM to @freedom_fdn • #Addiction #DrugAbuse #TransformALife #Community #Outreach #MyLagosDiaries #FreedomFoundation #GodBlessNigeria #GenesisHouse #HouseOfRefugeForWomen

Mr_jaccuss: “CALEB???? VF???? Good girl, wrong place, wrong company, within the stroke of an eye…this sure makes parenthood scary”.

Quintsdiction: ‘She has been waiting for @tonyrapu for a long time after he came for Bukky. How many are waiting on me too, Lord Jesus? Help me to rise to the heart cry of many panting for righteousness! Help me to become a saviour that I truly am. Help me not to be consumed by myself and for myself alone. Lord, raise many Rapus in my generation. Help us hear the cry for help of your many sons and daughters who have lost their ways. Help us, Precious Jesus!’.

Coachgbemz: “This girl obviously comes from a very comfortable and good back ground. Gosh this is so sad”.

This here is really pathetic, attended Caleb Nursery & Primary, Vivian Fowler for Secondary School, that's speaks a lot about her background.

What went wrong, where is the missing link:

- Parentage
- Society
- Religion
- Peer Influence?

God bless Pastor Tony Rapu

This girl is 17 years old and she has been on the streets for 7 years! Please where are her parents?! They should be prosecuted? This is not our value in the South, we don't run almajiris style of bringing up kids. Our traditional institutions should be strengthened for such...

anthony fedora@anthony_fedora

I beg to digress. If my parents took me to Caleb, Vivian fowler etc they did those cuz they wanted a good life for me. Any other lifestyle I decide/ choose I should also bear the consequences. We must learn to take the blame for our self inflicted injuries.

''She went to Vivian Fowler'', ''She is from a well to do family''.

Heroine and cocaine ain't cheap drugs which makes it a habit that can be cultivated by the wealthy. These drug menace have eaten too deep into the society, how many more Lizzy do we still have out there?

I saw a video of a 26 year old lady, lizzy addicted to drugs.

Trust some Nigerians, possible solutions to drug abuse is not trending but the school lizzy attended, Vivian Fowler and Caleb that's trending.

Even Harvard and Cambridge graduates can also be drug addicts
