Election Postponement: Ogunbanjo Passes Vote of No Confidence On INEC

The gubernatorial candidate of Alliance For New Nigeria ANN,Ademola Ogunbanjo has express his disappointment in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, today, over the announcement of the postponement of the 2019 General elections earlier scheduled for today.

According to him,This development is highly disappointing and discouraging, especially to those engaging the electoral process for the first time. It is indeed a confirmation of the ineptitude within our institutions; a mirroring effect of the bad leadership exemplified by the Buhari administration.
Considering that the commission had ample time to plan and prepare for the elections, it is quite disconcerting that they still require an extra week of grace.

He said the implications of this postponement go beyond logistics but psychological strain, and economic losses to the people and businesses.

Millions of people were committed, having travelled long distances, closed businesses, left families, and made many more sacrifices, just to be able to exercise their civic duty. These are the losses that INEC must apologize for, knowing full well that these same people are expected to repeat these sacrifices next Friday.

Very many conspiracy theories have surfaced to explain why the postponement was required. INEC have also given what most consider avoidable excuses.

In our righteous indignation, however, we must give INEC the benefit of doubt. We have flogged them for postponing the elections, now let’s hail them for admitting their unpreparedness. We must recognize that the decision they have taken was not easily arrived at; I believe they must have given the decision thorough consideration.

"I believe that postponing the elections is better than failing at it.
More importantly, we must recognize that the elections are not about INEC; they are about us, the people."

Therefore, we cannot afford to be discouraged. We cannot afford to boycott the process. We must see to it that we complete that which we have started. These failures must further strengthen our resolve to change this government, not to discourage us, but to make us more resolute in our bid to deliver this New Nigeria we all crave.
