The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old girl, Chika Chukwu, for unlawful possession of a pump-action gun. It was gathered that police detectives attached to the Central Police Station, Nnewi, in collaboration with the Okpunoegbu vigilance group arrested the girl on Thursday. A member of the Okpunoegbu vigilance group, who spoke with our correspondent, said, “The pump-action gun was loaded with four live cartridges and one expended cartridge. The 19-year-old woman was arrested at the Amahusa quarters on Thursday, where she concealed the gun inside a bunch of mopping stick in order to avoid being noticed.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent. He said, “On February 7, 2019, at 6am, following intelligence report, police detectives attached to the Nnewi Division in conjunction with Okpuno vigilance group arrested one Chika Chukwu, female, aged 19, of Okpunoegbu Nnewi with a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges and one expended cartridge at Amahusa quarters Nnewi. The suspect concealed the gun inside a mopping stick. The case is under investigation in order to ascertain the motive behind her action after which she would be charged to court.”

Similarly, the police in the area had on Thursday arrested a two-man carjacking syndicate. The police gave the names of the suspects as Chukwuma Uduka, aged 26, and Ifeanyi Edeoga, aged 30. According to the PPRO, the duo had robbed one Adesoye Adewale in Ichi and stolen his Honda Civic car with the number plate, Awka 579 LT, at gunpoint. He said, “The vehicle has been recovered from the suspects and the case is under investigation. The suspects will be charged to court after investigation.”

In 2017, Eric Labari, a 19-year-old gun manufacturer, has been arrested by Operation Safe Haven military task force in charge of security in Plateau and Southern Kaduna, NAN reports. The Commander of the task force, Maj. Gen. Nicholas Rojas, made the disclosure when he briefed newsmen in Jos on Wednesday. He said that Labari was arrested when OPSH personnel apprehended one of his customers, Bensahak Nandom. He said that Nandom was caught on his way to Jos from Mangu where he was going to resell the gun he bought from Labari. Rojas explained, “Somebody was arrested with a pistol and some ammunition and after investigation, he said that he bought it from somebody. He led us to the person he bought it from, he led us to the young man who has a warehouse where he fabricates different brands of weapons. He has his fabricating machine, his cutters, shapers and so many other things used in fabrication.”
