The leadership of all the Hausa community under the auspices of the Arewa community in Lagos have thrown their weight behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu as their preferred next governor of the state.
They made their decision known at a media briefing of the maiden edition of the Arewa Festival and Awards with the theme, “Arewa in Particular, Nigeria in General,” as the group called for unity, peace amongst the Arewa communities.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kano State on Lagos Affairs, Anthony Oneya, “The Arewa Community in Lagos has always given immense support to the past governors of Lagos state from the era of former governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that will not be changing anytime soon, thus, this gathering should present the entire Arewa community as a common front that is ready to work with Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to win the gubernatorial election in Lagos come 2019.
“Our people over the years, from Agege, Obalende and other parts of Lagos have often mobilized themselves to support gubernatorial candidates in the state from Alliance for Democracy (AD) to APC, as such we need to be united than ever, we cannot afford to be divided.”
The Chairman, Contact and Protocols, Lagos Arewa Festival 2018, Kabir Dinar said, “the festival gathering is to bring about unity and peace in the community which would help the cause of the APC government because we are going all out to galvanize votes for the duo of President Muhammad Buhari and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
The Director, Ethnic Affairs of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu Independent Campaign Organization (BOS-ICG), Hon. Wale Adelana assured that the Arewa Festival would be used to unite all the different Arewa factions in Lagos state.
